All animals within the imperator subspecies have one common thing, compared to the Muticus. They all have bright blue banded feathers on the wing covers. Otherwise, the imperators of different subspecies can still differ substantially in colour and marking.
The imported green peafowl with their habitat in the north of Thailand are serious endangered. By accessing the people, their natural habitat is being destroyed more and more. The farmers with their fields are pushed the peafowl into the mountains where they find nearly no food or water. Additionally large forest areas are cleaned, which destroys their last retreat areas for the green peafowl in this region.
The neck colour of adult roosters is green and shining only a little yellow (golden). The transition from the neck to the back and the back plate is a strong, bright green. The feathers on the head and of the crest are different to the neck. These feathers are coloured turquoise. The roosters are large and strongly built and up to the head they are in a height of about 100 to 110 cm.
The hens are slightly different coloured, because they need for the hatching a better camouflage. Her neck plumage is much browner share. From looks similar to dry grass which is a little bit weathered. The neck has very little green. Only the transition to the head and the crest are coloured bright green. The back plate is banded black and brown. The lower back feathers are green / yellow and sometimes are almost as long as the tail feathers. Thus, the hens when they hatching on the ground are almost invisible. They are about 10 cm smaller in comparison to the roosters.
